How to Make Your Sunday Reset Count

If you’ve made any New Year’s resolutions for 2023, we hope at least one of them helps you prioritize YOU. After all, you can’t take care of anyone else without first taking care of yourself!

Whether your goals are focused on productivity or giving yourself more me-time, incorporating a regular Sunday Reset could help you achieve them. That’s why we asked self care expert, Kiana Leroux, to share with us how she makes the most of her Sundays.

Meet Kiana

Kiana Leroux (@kileroux) is a lifestyle content creator from New York with a passion for self care. With her followers around the world, she shares her life lessons in motherhood, dating, and the importance of putting herself first.

What is a Sunday Reset?

A Sunday Reset is a routine you adhere to each Sunday to help prepare yourself for a busy workweek ahead. For example, this might include tidying up your home and preparing meals for you and your family. This set of steps will be unique to each individual, but the ultimate goal of a Sunday Reset is to ward off any stress or anxiety that comes from anticipation of the week ahead.

But even more than cleaning up your surroundings or having everything packed and ready to go, Kiana believes that a proper Sunday Reset includes an element of self care.

What is the definition of self care?

Self care refers to practicing an activity that nourishes your mind, body, and soul. These activities are meant to reduce stress and boost our energy. And most importantly, regular self care is a reminder that your own well-being is vital and should be prioritized.

Some self care ideas include:

  • Cooking or baking
  • Watching a favorite show
  • Taking a walk
  • Chatting with a good friend
  • Taking a nap
  • Reading a book
  • Crossing off a to-do list

You’ll notice that the definition of self care depends on who’s practicing it. Kiana’s go-tos include fitness, painting, video editing, and meditation.

During her Sunday Reset, she keeps the focus on a few key tasks.

1. Tackle the big chores

Since most of us don’t have much free time during the week, it’s wise to spend time cleaning up the house during your Sunday Reset. Doing so will save you from tearing the house apart looking for your rain jacket on a Tuesday morning when you’re already running late. In addition to cleaning, you may want to prep the things you’ll need during the week, like meals or even outfits. Or go out and run errands that may be hard to accomplish during the week.

On weekends, Kiana sticks to a few key tasks. “On Sundays, I deep clean my entire house including all laundry. I also meal prep and plan out meals for 3 days in advance including making a grocery trip. I also style my daughter’s hair for the week so that’s one less thing I have to do during the school week.”

2. Journal and plan your to-dos

According to Kiana, “I spend every Sunday night journaling and writing out my weekly to-do list to curb some of the stress that may come in the week ahead.” This puts her “2 steps ahead” and gives her a quick visual reference of everything that needs to be done.

Journaling means simply writing out your thoughts and feelings on paper. It’s a practice that’s easy to do at the same time you create your to-do list, and it can help you clear your mind and identify the challenges you face on a regular basis. It’s a great way to manage anxiety, identify negative self-talk, and prioritize your goals. All things that lead to a better and more productive you!

3. Incorporate self care

Of course, you can’t call your weekend routine complete without setting aside a little time for yourself. Kiana expresses that “Self care is the most important routine in my life to keep myself balanced. As a mom, it’s easy for me to put myself last. So I make sure to schedule myself one ‘selfish’ day a week where I eat whatever I want, clean with my favorite music playing, take myself on a lunch or dinner date, and end the night with a bubble bath while tuning into my favorite show or movie.”

And Kiana gives us a good reminder—even if you can’t fit in your self care ritual on Sunday, add it to your weekly to-do list to cover on a weeknight or even during a lunch hour. Making time for it, even in small doses, is what matters most.

4. Choose your most comfortable space

While you may be around the whole house cleaning things up during your Sunday reset, when you do take time to wind down, choose a room that makes you feel comfortable and at peace. This could be the bathroom where you enjoy a relaxing bubble bath, or the bedroom where you’ve just put a fresh set of sheets on the bed.

Kiana emphasizes that “my home must reflect my inner peace. It’s important for me to have a space that’s not only comfortable but welcoming for myself and the ones I love. My open living room allows me space to meditate and the comfy sofas are my go-to spots to sit and recharge, write, and gather my thoughts to navigate the days ahead.”
