Do you find yourself sleeping on clouds every night? Do you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to slide down a rainbow? If you replied with a ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then you, my friend, may have a serious case of “live-in-wonder-ia” from having found your perfect match in a mattress! But you know what they say about loving your mattress, don’t you? When you find “the one,” treat it right — keep your mattress clean and be amazed by how long your relationship lasts!
These are all valid questions and while we hope you already know the answer to the last question is “no,” we understand that it can be all too confusing. So, we sifted through layers of misinformation on the Web and coiled out of bed (see what we did there?) to put together a handy 5-point easy-care guide to help keep your mattress, especially a Zinus, clean and comfortable.
Our mattresses are self-contained wonder delivery systems! Removing the mattress cover could jeopardize that system. The mattress cover isn’t washable, and removing it could inhibit the fire safety barrier, so please always leave the cover on!
This, right here, is the best way to keep your mattress clean. A good, water-proof mattress protector is the equivalent of health insurance – yeah, we really just said that – for your mattress. You don’t realize you need it until you do! So, cover up your precious mattress with a removable protector and wash it at least once a month to remove dust mites, dead skin and accidental spills and stains.
We highly recommend that you always use a mattress protector but, in the event that you don’t and a treacherous stain makes it way to your mattress, then spot clean. An article on Apartment Therapy recommends you “…Treat stains with a combination of hydrogen peroxide, liquid dish soap, and baking soda. Mix them into a spray bottle and treat the stained area. Blot and/or rub with a clean rag.”
There’s no two ways about any Zinus mattress, literally! We design each one to be single-sided with a sturdy high-density base layer that should, as the name suggests, be the bottom layer of the mattress at all times. And we imagine that you’d want to sleep in comfort on the plush top layer, always! But you should rotate it – do it at least every 2 months to disrupt wear patterns from prolonged use.
Be good to your mattress! Preserve its integrity by providing it strong, sturdy support from one of our ingenious SmartBase options (with under bed storage – score!) or stylish and easy-to-assemble platform beds. If you prefer the bedframe-box spring combination, then use that! It doesn’t matter how you care for your mattress… what matters most is that you care!
